This job offer is for any duration – from 2 weeks to 9 months and is for a post with MovingOn Courses in Belfast. We also run courses in Cork during the summer.

We only employ native English teachers preferably with a TEFL qualification.

Driving licence is a plus.

You must be sociable – you will share the accommodartion with students. The students are adult professionals.

The general theme of this website – telephone English classes via skype etc is a future project so please do not be think that this job offer is about online teaching.

So…the job for a TEFL teacher in Belfast:

Enjoy Belfast and (as part of your work) get to visit Northern Ireland – Giant’s Causeway etc.

Background:

We are a small academy that offers various courses. This job is to be involved with our cheap economical course and homestay (intensive) course. Details are on our website.

We normally offer very intensive English courses that include classes, meals, daily trips/activities and accommodation (individual room) shared with the teachers. A typical course has an average of 2 to 4 students per English teacher.

In summer, in Cork, Ireland, there are  20 to 60 English language students and 6 to 15 teachers.

During the rest of the year we offer intensive courses in our home in Belfast.

Your job:

Teaching adult English language students in small groups in Belfast. The classes are a mix of our homestay students and economical course students.

In short:

18 hours of morning English classes each week plus another 18 hours of afternoon classes OR activities/trips with students..

Details:

Monday to Friday

Teach a small group of adult students (max 4) for 3,5 hours each morning.

In the afternoon you may have to teach another group for 3,5 hours. Alternatively, you may be involved in trips to take a few students on a trip to visit tourist attractions in and around Belfast or Northern Ireland. We provide the necessary transport for afternoon trips and one of us will normally attend the trip too.

Our home (and a nearby apartment) is for the intensive homestay course and two other houses are for the course with only classes.

We have local English teachers who help with the classes and also the trips.

Our homestay course (in our home) includes afternoon trips.

Pay (in cash):

250 euros/week – guaranteed no matter how many students we have.

Accommodation is included – in an individual room in a house shared with students. 15 mins walk to city centre.

Bills and wi-fi – included

You will have to teach every morning.

Lunch will probably be with the homestay students in our home.

In the afternoon you may teach, go on a trip or help with the organisation/marketing of the course.

On average you will teach one afternoon per week, do one afternoon of admin (for 2 hours) and three afternoon trips. If you have to teach 3 afternoons in one week you will have one afternoon free.

Things to consider:
Accommodation is included – in an individual room.

No bills and free wi-fi.

This is a very flexible situation – you can come for as long as you like.

No time or costs searching for accommodation.

No time travelling to work or very little time.

An opportunity to see Northern Ireland for free / part of your work. This means less money will disappear on tourism.

Please note: You can stay for as little as 2 weeks. However if you stay only 2, 3 or 4  weeks then the first week is not paid. If you stay 5+ weeks then every week is fully paid.

Is Belfast in Ireland or U.K?

Belfast is in Northern Ireland and so is part of the U.K.

How long is the contract?

We guarantee 4 weeks and will give and expect 2 weeks’ notice. Provided both parties are happy you can stay as long as you wish.

When and how do I get paid?

After 3 weeks we will pay you for the first week of work. We then pay weekly. When you leave the difference is paid. Pay is in cash.

Do I have an individual room?

Yes

Do I have any classes/duties at the weekend?

No – but we prefer a teacher who would spend some social time with the students.

Do I teach the same group all the time?

No, we will try to provide variety for you and the students.

How long do the students stay for?

Students will arrive and leave all the time. The homestay students normally stay for only one or two weeks. The minimum stay for the economical course is 4 weeks and we expect an average of 8 weeks.

This looks good but exhausting!!

Sure is! That is why we are so flexible and expect a teacher to stay a few months while looking for another job.

Where is the school and my house?

There are two houses for this new course and OUR home which is near. There is 10 minutes’ walk between each house.

Do I need to have a car?

No, Belfast is small – 300,000 and you are 20 minutes’ walk from the city centre. You will also attend some trips and so a car is not necessary.

Can I take a holiday?

Yes.

What happens at Christmas?

This can be agreed – in principle we expect you to take one week off – you will still have your room but no classes and no pay.

I am newly qualified etc, is there any support?

Yes, the other teacher has 10+ years’ experience. Sonia and I also have 10+ years’ experience.

Do you provide books etc?

Yes,we generally use Clockwise but you are free to use your own material and ask for photocopies.

Can a friend visit?

Yes, provided you respect the classes etc of the students.

Do you provide visa support?

No, you should be able to enter on a tourist visa.

Other info

If all goes well, we may ask you to go to do a couple of weeks teaching in Spain. We will pay your travel and be flexible about you taking advantage to have some holiday time.

MovingOn Courses offers intensive English courses in the UK, Ireland and Spain (including weekends in casa rurales) but we are not so interested in managing private classes or company classes in Spain.

So why the ad:

Companies and individuals occasionally ask for English classes.

The idea is that we will have a happy client and you get to know us and recommend us. We pay a commission to teachers who send us students.

About the class:

This particular client is a private individual who already knows about us due to a friend that attended our summer English course in summer 2011 in Cork.

As mentioned in the ad the classes are in Arturo Soria and in the mornings.

I think the student has a pre intermediate level.

We recommend 20Euros/hour and 24Euros/hour if you need to provide an invoice as autonomo. The student will pay you directly – there is no cut for MovingOn Courses.

If we need to provide an invoice we will charge the student 7Euros more than you charge us eg we charge 26Euros/hour and your pay will be 19Euros/hour). This is to cover unwanted admin hassle and the fact we have to pay tax – unlike you

Duties:

2 – 3.5 hours class teaching each morning. If there is only one student then Sonia will teach for one hour most mornings If there are more students then each class will be with a different student. We do not mix levels for classes

Share meals with students and ourselves– all students share meals regardless of their level

Attend a minimum of 4 trips per week. – students will generally go on a trip together. Sonia and/or Gavin will also attend some trips and any other teachers.

If there is only one student and two teachers (Sonia does not count as a teacher) then you will have obviously have less teaching time. During these weeks we expect 5 hours of admin work.

Weekends are free and you will need down time however you are expected to be chatty and correct students if they are around. Bear in mind there are no classes at weekends.

Accommodation

You share the house with us and any students.
Belfast – you have a private room. The house is in the city.
Javea, Spain – you may have the opportunity to accompany us to Spain for a special intensive English course. The courses in Javea take place in an apartment in the port 2 mins walk from the sea.

Trips
Some trips will simply be walking around the local city and visiting places of interest. However most days we will take the car and visit the surrounding area. You do not pay admission fees but pay for any drinks etc you choose to have. You will have time to visit many places of interest within 3 hours of Belfast.

Pay

Accommodation and all meals are included and also entrance fees on trips.

You receive a minimum or 50Euros per week whether we have students or not. That means you have accommodation and meals covered plus 50Euros spending money whether there is a student or not.

In addition we pay a bonus of 50Euros for each student that attends the course. However this money is divided between the teachers attending the course.

To calculate the pay:

50Euros +  50*(number of students/number of teachers)

This means if there is one student (and you are the only teacher) you will be paid an additional 50Euros – 100 Euros in total  THAT  WEEK. 

If there is a second student (and you are the only teacher) then the pay will be 150Euros for that week.

You will have 200Euros/month minimum to spend (after accommodation and food costs) and will not need to spend money on travel/tourism.

 Weeks when there are no students:

We will expect you to help with admin tasks for 20 hours. The rest of the time you are totally free.
You will be paid in cash weekly. Your first payment will be after three weeks.

You don’t like the job and wish to leave or we would like you to leave: either party needs to provide 2 weeks’ notice. Please note that this has never happened in the last 15 years which is the whole MovingOn Courses history.

Why do we prefer couples?

Simply because a couple will be more independent. When there are no students Sonia and myself will want time to ourselves.

Reasons to apply for this

This is intensive work but enjoyable and rewarding.  You will get to see plenty of places – it will be like a paid holiday.

The pay is not great but you have guaranteed minimum that you can save,  or more likely, use to cover your night excursions . You will also get to know us and we will get to know you. This means it is more likely that we can offer you a job in Cork for the summer..

You may be familiar with a large company in Spain called pueblo ingles. They have a similar offer however they expect more of your time, offer you less freedom, do not give you the opportunity to travel around and do not pay you.

We are flexible and easy to work with.

If there is space in the house friends are free to visit. They must be native English speakers. We would charge them 10Euros per night for accommodation and meals. If there are students and they participate in the course then the stay is free.

Use of a car.- we charge 5Euros for every 100km so as to cover costs of wear and tear. You pay your own petrol. Please note, at the moment our insurance is only for drivers that are 26 or older.

Once you have attended our courses, you will happily recommend them to students and can earn a commission. Indeed, if you invited a student during your stay with us, you would receive the commission plus more pay.

We have a team of English language teachers who are available up for skype classes. All our language teachers are graduates with a CELTA qualification.

The price for our skype classes

20 minutes/class – 14Euros

30minutes/class – 17Euros

40minutes/class – 19Euros

50minutes/class – 21Euros

60minutes/class – 23Euros

You will have class with more than one teacher. The teachers will be in contact so that you do not repeat class content etc.

All teachers have a fast broadband internet connection so an English class on skype is as reliable as a normal telephone class.

For every hour of class you will receive a discount of 10Euros on a residential course in Ireland. MovingOn Courses offers a different more entertaining English course in Cork Ireland. You will learn a lot more English and lot faster than in other English language courses.

We have received a few mails from English teachers who wish to teach English online but mainly because they wish to be able to travel and do online English classes or telephone classes while on the move.

Fantastic, you are on our data base and some of you are already teaching English via skype etc. However we can offer many other possibilities such as coming to Spain to do your teaching and getting involved in our one to English courses and enjoying some of the beautiful countryside around javea. Javea is not the tpical highrise hotel destination for drunken English. It is a weel to do location where there are people learning English and people learning Spanish. You couls combine your time teaching English with classes so that you learn Spanish.
